Dining tables usually come in three shapes. Rectangular, square or round. A square table is typically used when either 2, 4 or 8 people are seated at the table. Each person is equidistant from the next. This allows the group to eat very relaxed and in a pleasant atmosphere at the table. If several people need to sit at the table, two or more square tables can be joined to form a rectangular dining table.
The disadvantage of this style is that the table should not be such that it overhangs the room and takes up most of the space, nor should it be so small that the room looks empty. Also, the people sitting near the wall are usually bothered as they have difficulty entering or exiting their seat and they feel crowded due to the proximity of the wall.
Round dining tables, on the other hand, are ideal for small dining rooms and dining areas. There is no head at the table and the atmosphere is friendly and warm. Since round dining tables have no sharp edges, they are child-friendly. These tables can also be used to play different types of board games and cards. Round dining tables are now available with a top. If more people are present than expected, the table tops can be pulled out and more people can be seated on the table. However, care must be taken to ensure that the table does not tend to tip over.
