Getting contemporary decor right can be a bit confusing at times. It’s a mix of clean lines of modern decor (though the lines in contemporary homes aren’t as severe as in contemporary homes) with open spaces, casual vibes, neutral colors, and materials inspired by nature. You can add a little contemporary decor to your modern interior with these tips.
Color
Contemporary decor relies on neutral colors like brown, taupe, white, beige, and cream. You can try adding a throw or cushion to your sofa in one of these colors that go with the sofa. Others still find it useful to have a rug or part of the wall painted neutral colors. However, the carpets should be geometrically patterned.
lighting
Lighting is more of an artistic statement in contemporary interior design. Therefore, use lamps with straight lines and an elegant look, which should mostly have a metallic finish. The colors should also be neutral.
Furniture
Modern homes use clear, smooth furniture with geometric shapes. This furniture is often plain and simple, devoid of any touch of decoration. Birch or maple wood can be used as materials, which have a very small grain and are light in color. Natural materials such as jute, silk or wool should preferably be used as fabrics for the furniture.
A minimalist look should also be considered when furnishing your home with contemporary decor. So less is always more. Avoid excessive embellishments or carved details and opt for a simple and textural look instead.
