Guide to wool shag rug

introduction

Shaggy rugs differ from other rugs in two ways; Yarn and pile length. While regular rugs have a short yarn, high pile rugs have a very short yarn. In contrast to normal carpets with a dense pile, shaggy carpets have a loose pile. However, not all shaggy rugs have long yarns. A shag rag can be styled into a mini, short, or long shag.

Shaggy rugs are made from a variety of materials including wool, cotton, leather, nylon, and bamboo, among others. There are also natural and synthetic high pile rugs that you should consider when purchasing one or more rugs. Due to their use in high traffic areas of the home, in most cases they are built to last. You can find shaggy rugs in different colors and patterns.

Handmade or machine made

This is a very important factor to consider when purchasing a shaggy carpet. In handmade carpets, the fibers are used to tie knots. This is typically a labor intensive process that otherwise produces high pile density carpets. Handmade rugs also involve tying knots to create the desired patterns. This is the process that produces high quality rugs that are sold at high prices.

In contrast, machine-making (hand-tufting) a rug involves punching fibers onto a stretched canvas that is attached to a frame. A hand-operated machine is used for this. A gauze fabric is then glued to the back of the canvas before a fringe is sewn onto it. These rugs prove to be inferior to handmade rugs and are therefore usually affordable.

Shaggy carpets made of wool

Wool shaggy rugs are some of the most popular shaggy rugs on the market. They can also be very expensive. Like other shaggy rugs made from other materials, wool rugs come in a variety of colors, shapes, styles, and sizes.

However, shaggy wool rugs are not the same. This is a very important factor to consider when purchasing a wool rug.

  • Flokati Shaggy Rug – This is a pure wool shaggy rug originating in Greece and the wool used is Sheepdog and New Zealand wool. It is extremely lush and soft. Although it is cream in color in most cases, it also comes in other different colors. Carpet needs to be cleaned regularly, although cleaning can be a challenge due to its dense nature. The good thing about the flokati shag rug is its high fire resistance.
  • Acrylic Shaggy Rug – This is the synthetic version of the Flokati rug. Unlike flokati rug, acrylic rug is not vibrant and lacks the luster evident in flokati rug. Cleaning this carpet is a big challenge as it picks up dirt easily. In addition, acrylic rugs are not durable as their tufts are very easy to pull out. The worst part is that acrylic rugs are highly flammable.

Any wool shaggy rug you buy will require a lot of maintenance. Aside from being difficult to vacuum, you need to prevent anything from getting on the surface or there will be discoloration. It is also a great challenge to remove odors from the carpet.
